Raid your Grandmother’s dresser

So, In the post “Note to self…” I found a lot of cool gloves for this winter. Personally though, I usually only shop vintage, so I hadn’t bought a pair of gloves, because I was waiting to find that perfect pair. I knew I would go to some vintage store and they would just jump out at me and scream “Hi Love! We’re here, and we’re perfect; buy us”. But it hasn’t happened.

I’m in the process of moving, and with that comes cleaning the closet. When I call the closet a beast, It is so true. After throwing out many rubbish bags full of clothes, and filling giant Tupperware containers full of things for Goodwill, I still have a massive amount left to sift through.

As I was going through an old box full of things that I never look at, I realized it had the most beautiful pair of gloves sitting in the bottom. I remember taking the gloves from my grandmothers dresser drawer, righ after she died, as I was the only family member with hands small enough to fit them.

They’re perfect. I didn’t need to shop online, or go to a vintage shop, all I needed was to look at what I already had.

 

So, go to your grandmothers place, and go through her drawers (if she’ll let you). Grab some old gloves, and wear them this season instead of buying new ones.

Sweater Sale!!!

Hooray! Victoria’s Secret is having a sale!!! I just got three new sweaters, all under $30 each. And with the purchase of a new sweater, you get a free scarf!

In Keeping Secrets…

I really wanna keep this one to myself, but I can’t. It’s a site called Ever Pretty, based in the UK. http://www.ever-pretty.com. It’s wonderful. They take dresses from the runway, and make cheaper look a likes.

I will warn you, some of the dresses on the website are made very poorly, and with cheap material. Please know what you are buying when you order so you don’t get stuck with something you don’t like.

Awesome Trench Coats

Well, I’m not just going to show trench coats, but the website http://www.modcloth.com/ has some pretty kick ass coats that you should know about if you haven’t gotten one yet this fall. Here are a couple of my favorites:

This trench is really great. I feel like it should go over a little pin-up girls dress. This one goes for $199.

Suede’s Green Dress

Suede won the green challenge on Project Runway with this dress, and they are selling 150 of them on BlueFly. I love the dress, on the show, and the one being sold. I really like the way it just looks thrown together on the show though, not on BlueFly. I guess that wouldn’t be too practical though.

Handle me with Care

Just like I don’t listen to country music (see last post), I don’t watch Gossip Girl. I do, however, regularly check out what Blake Lively is wearing. She is so pretty, and has great style. Here are some pictures, and a couple of ways to steal her look (for a little less).

CMA Fashion (an unbiased opinion)

Ok, so I’m going to admit that I don’t really like country music. I mean, I like old country (who doesn’t) and bluegrass, but newer country just isn’t my taste.

That being said, other than seeing their pictures, or seeing them mentioned on TV, I don’t really know who any of these people are. I will, however, totally judge them based off of what they just wore to the CMA’s. There were good and very very bad.

First I’m gonna go with Miley Cyrus. So, apparently she’s about to turn 16. I can’t believe she’s even a teenager. She looks great, and her Roberto Cavalli gown is just gorgeous (I love the back of it).

 

Ok, so this is Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco. She is super cute, and the dress is amazing! but I think that maybe she should go over to Amy Winehouse’s home and eat some grilled cheese with her. Fatten up little cutie!

Ok, gotta talk about Jewel. She just keeps getting better looking with age. I think she looks just stunning in this Roberto Cavalli dress. This is his second home run of the night!!

Shania Twain looks great in this Missoni dress, and look at those cutie shoes!!! I’m glad she chose something that wasn’t floor length, she looks adorable.

As a general rule, girls named Miranda usually totally rule. I have no idea if Miranda Lambert rules or not, and her Hugo Boss dress is pretty, but it might have been better if she didn’t borrow Mr. T’s jewelry for the evening. Geez. The “necklace” is by Angie Bovaird, and I think it ruined her look.

Ok, this has nothing to do with fashion, but who knew country music has such hotties!!! This is Lady Antebellum. How hot.

Um, did Kelly Pickler steal this dress from a hooker?

Last, but not least, Julianne Hough is wearing a really cool gown with some architectural detailing. This dress is by Angel Sanchez, and I thought it was the best of the night. Her jewelry was beautiful without being distracting, and her clutch is to die for! I loved it!!!

Right Hand Ring

I love the idea of the right hand ring. It doesn’t have to mean that you’re single, but just that you are independent and happy. Being a “single” girl, living in the city, working all of the time, I feel like I can splurge a little on myself sometimes. It’s not like I need to spend the money on my kids (I would if I had them, but now… nah). Right hand rings started out being diamond rings girls bought for themselves, but they don’t have to be diamond rings. I think big, chunky rings are really going to be in this winter, so stock up!

I am in love. In love with this stone cluster ring from: http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/34036. It’s from Erickson Beamon, and retails for $235. I can’t get over how much I love this ring. It’s so beautiful, and all I can think about when I see it are old paintings on wood panels with gold leaf.

Want a splash of color? This ring is perfect!!! I am always about white, black, and grey, but I freakin’ love this ring!! How wonderful. This ring is by Sazingg and retails for $950 on Vivre.com.

Last but not least. My favorite ring out of this bunch. It also happens to be the cheapest (hooray)! You can’t go wrong with frosted crystals, when it’s mixed with diamonds and sterling silver. This piece can be found on http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com, and goes for $90.

 

Worst. Handbag. Ever.

Seriously? Someone might actually buy this thing? And wait… someone actually designed this? How insane? This is the Marie-Jeanne Crystal Minaudiere, by Sylvia Toledano. It retails for $1,400.00.

So, Ms. Sylvia has created a lot of these “bags” that are encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The description given on http://www.vivre.com talks about the “leaves” on this piece, and how wonderful they look. I think they look kind of like pot leaves, and I totally think Ms. Sylvia has been smoking a little too much to actually think that someone would buy this for $1,400.00. Wow. I mean, I guess the positive is that it comes with an ink pen.

Maybe someone who is desperate for a pen one day… well, no… that’ll never happen. I wonder how many of these have sold. For some reason, I’m sure the number is higher than what I can imagine…
