Suede’s Green Dress

Posted in Fashion with tags , , , , , on November 16, 2008 by yourgoodsailor

Suede won the green challenge on Project Runway with this dress, and they are selling 150 of them on BlueFly. I think they’re close to being sold out, so if you want his cute little dress, go to: http://www.bluefly.com/Suede-champagne-silk-eco-chic-short-dress/SEARCH/301432601/detail.fly where you can get it for $280.

I love the dress, on the show, and the one being sold. I really like the way it just looks thrown together on the show though, not on BlueFly. I guess that wouldn’t be too practical though.

CMA Fashion (an unbiased opinion)

Ok, so I’m going to admit that I don’t really like country music. I mean, I like old country (who doesn’t) and bluegrass, but newer country just isn’t my taste.

That being said, other than seeing their pictures, or seeing them mentioned on TV, I don’t really know who any of these people are. I will, however, totally judge them based off of what they just wore to the CMA’s. There were good and very very bad.

First I’m gonna go with Miley Cyrus. So, apparently she’s about to turn 16. I can’t believe she’s even a teenager. She looks great, and her Roberto Cavalli gown is just gorgeous (I love the back of it).

Ok, so this is Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco. She is super cute, and the dress is amazing! but I think that maybe she should go over to Amy Winehouse’s home and eat some grilled cheese with her. Fatten up little cutie!

Ok, gotta talk about Jewel. She just keeps getting better looking with age. I think she looks just stunning in this Roberto Cavalli dress. This is his second home run of the night!!

Shania Twain looks great in this Missoni dress, and look at those cutie shoes!!! I’m glad she chose something that wasn’t floor length, she looks adorable.

As a general rule, girls named Miranda usually totally rule. I have no idea if Miranda Lambert rules or not, and her Hugo Boss dress is pretty, but it might have been better if she didn’t borrow Mr. T’s jewelry for the evening. Geez. The “necklace” is by Angie Bovaird, and I think it ruined her look.

Ok, this has nothing to do with fashion, but who knew country music has such hotties!!! This is Lady Antebellum. How hot.

Um, did Kelly Pickler steal this dress from a hooker?

Last, but not least, Julianne Hough is wearing a really cool gown with some architectural detailing. This dress is by Angel Sanchez, and I thought it was the best of the night. Her jewelry was beautiful without being distracting, and her clutch is to die for! I loved it!!!

I’m addicted to the E! show Chelsea Lately. Comedian Chelsea Handler, and her sidekick Chuy basically sit around and talk shit about, and to celebrities. The portion of the show called “The Round Table” is the best. It’s just her with a bunch of other comedians talking about the current events of celebrities. Hilarious. Chelsea is not only funny, but she has a killer sense of style. Whether it’s on the show, or on the red carpet, she’s always looking fabulous. Here are some Chelsea looks, and places you can snag them!!

This is Chelsea in a dress by David Meister, which you can find on his site: http://www.davidmeister.com.

Another great dress she wore was this black number by Black Halo. You can find it on http://www.shopstyle.com for $350. It’s not the exact one that she wore, but it’s close.

Chelsea in a beautiful blue strapless dress. To get that look for “less”, I would reccommend these two dresses. The first is by Nicole Miller, $230 on http://www.bluefly.com. The second is by David Meister, and can be found on http://www.bloomingdales.com for $375.

Chelsea in a stunning yellow ruffle dress. I love vintage, so I would suggest this Karen Zambo vintage dress on http://www.thisnext.com.

Bridget’s Cutie Dress

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I watch The Girls Next Door, but whatever, I do. I think I’ve seen all of them. It’s my guilty pleasure… I love it.

There was an episode in season 5, where Holly, Bridget, and Kendra make Hef chocolate body parts for his birthday. Bridget had on the cutest little dress, and I have been wondering where she got it. Turns out, it’s not just a dress, but a dress with an apron over it. Take a basic gingham dress, and throw on this apron from http://www.cupcakeswirl.com/, and you’ll have her cutie look.

Here is a gingham dress from Bebe, and the apron from Cupcake Swirl:

So, I keep seeing Katy Perry everywhere, and some days I love what she’s wearing, and other days I don’t. It’s hard to decide whether or not she has killer style, or is just some kid who is being thrown into some crazy outfits for more publicity. I honestly doubt she has killer personal style, looking back on how she’s dressed before she got famous. Regardless of if I LOVE something she’s wearing, or hate it, I have to give her props for not being shy about dressing up. What fun is it to wear a dumpy t-shirt and jeans all the time?

I guess I just like the fact that she’s willing to take some risks. Katy is beautiful, and hopefully she’ll keep up with the good ones, and try to have a more editing eye when it comes to choosing her wardrobe.

I do have to say a little something about her Obama Dress!! Holy crap. Ok, so, it’s pretty awesome that someone made an Obama dress, but I always am a little uneasy when celebrities support politicians. I mean, I wonder how much she really knows about Obama? She might know a lot about politics, I don’t care enough to do any research on it, but I wonder sometimes…

Love the last outfit. I want it!!!

In Response: Michelle Obama Fashion

Posted in Fashion with tags , , , , , on November 6, 2008 by yourgoodsailor

In response to this article on Michelle Obama’s “Fashion Mishap”: http://onthescene.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/11/05/michelles-style-mishap/… this won’t be a long post, but I felt the need to say something. I mean, seriously? That dress was bold. Maybe not the safest bet, but I bet it’s more exciting than what’s in your closet,  Ms. Noelle Watters. If you take risks in fashion, you are probably going to have one or two things that not everyone appreciates.

I, for one, think that Michelle is just stunning, and I love her sense of style. The next Jackie O…?

Interview with a Vampire

I’m sitting here, watching the election, and it’s all I want to write about. I am thrilled with the results so far, although I honestly was hoping that my state would go Obama. It’s a long-shot, because I don’t even remember when it went Democrat, but I thought we had a shot. The results haven’t come in, but it’s close. Close, but not enough. We went McCain.

It’s so weird to live in a city that is prodominately Liberal, and then have your state go Conservative. That’s Texas, I guess. I can’t complain. I voted, Obama is doing well, so far, and unless something earth shattering happen, he’ll take it.

Back to the normal blog…

This past weekend, my friend was visiting for Halloween, and was going to dress as Brad Pitt from “Interview with a Vampire”. I had never seen the movie (I know, right), so we decided to watch it, so I could see what he wanted to dress like. I fell in love with the costumes in the movie, and unfortunately, had no idea where he would go to buy pieces for an outfit like Brad Pitt’s.  I also had never seen a store or site that had women’s clothing like that in the movie.

I did a little research, and think I have found the best one on the internet. It has 1920’s to 1980’s Vintage clothing, but it also has breathtaking dresses from the 1800s. The website is Past Perfect Vintage Clothing – http://pastperfectvintage.com/index.htm

This piece is from 1887, and runs around $900 (which isn’t too shabby considering how old it is).

Here is another dress from the 50’s that is on the same website (runs around $225):

If you don’t shop at Marshall’s to find good deals, you really need to start. I have a shopping addiction, so I have to swing by places called Marshall’s so I can still shop without blowing through every dime I have. Today, I went there to look for a sweater (and was unsuccessful). I ended up finding the most amazing Betsey Johnson dress. It was $39.99. I also got two pairs of Betsey Johnson stockings for $9.99!!

I was expecting the dress to have a big rip in it or something, but it was in perfect shape. Crazy. I saw some Betseyville bags too, but I tend to go for more subtle bags, and those are anything but.

Basically, the dress was just like this one, but the sleeves came down just past the elbows, with little buttons at the end of the sleeves, and it’s black with light pink polka dots. Before this one was sold out, it was worth $295, so I’d say $39 is well worth it. Hooray! Go to Marshalls!
