CMA Fashion (an unbiased opinion)

Ok, so I’m going to admit that I don’t really like country music. I mean, I like old country (who doesn’t) and bluegrass, but newer country just isn’t my taste.

That being said, other than seeing their pictures, or seeing them mentioned on TV, I don’t really know who any of these people are. I will, however, totally judge them based off of what they just wore to the CMA’s. There were good and very very bad.

First I’m gonna go with Miley Cyrus. So, apparently she’s about to turn 16. I can’t believe she’s even a teenager. She looks great, and her Roberto Cavalli gown is just gorgeous (I love the back of it).

Ok, so this is Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco. She is super cute, and the dress is amazing! but I think that maybe she should go over to Amy Winehouse’s home and eat some grilled cheese with her. Fatten up little cutie!

Ok, gotta talk about Jewel. She just keeps getting better looking with age. I think she looks just stunning in this Roberto Cavalli dress. This is his second home run of the night!!

Shania Twain looks great in this Missoni dress, and look at those cutie shoes!!! I’m glad she chose something that wasn’t floor length, she looks adorable.

As a general rule, girls named Miranda usually totally rule. I have no idea if Miranda Lambert rules or not, and her Hugo Boss dress is pretty, but it might have been better if she didn’t borrow Mr. T’s jewelry for the evening. Geez. The “necklace” is by Angie Bovaird, and I think it ruined her look.

Ok, this has nothing to do with fashion, but who knew country music has such hotties!!! This is Lady Antebellum. How hot.

Um, did Kelly Pickler steal this dress from a hooker?

Last, but not least, Julianne Hough is wearing a really cool gown with some architectural detailing. This dress is by Angel Sanchez, and I thought it was the best of the night. Her jewelry was beautiful without being distracting, and her clutch is to die for! I loved it!!!

Worst. Handbag. Ever.

Seriously? Someone might actually buy this thing? And wait… someone actually designed this? How insane? This is the Marie-Jeanne Crystal Minaudiere, by Sylvia Toledano. It retails for $1,400.00.

So, Ms. Sylvia has created a lot of these “bags” that are encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The description given on http://www.vivre.com talks about the “leaves” on this piece, and how wonderful they look. I think they look kind of like pot leaves, and I totally think Ms. Sylvia has been smoking a little too much to actually think that someone would buy this for $1,400.00. Wow. I mean, I guess the positive is that it comes with an ink pen.

Maybe someone who is desperate for a pen one day… well, no… that’ll never happen. I wonder how many of these have sold. For some reason, I’m sure the number is higher than what I can imagine…

seriously Take it all in….

Note to self…

Note to self… When looking for leather gloves online, make sure to put Leather Gloves in quotation marks so you don’t accidentally wind up on a leather fetish website.

Um… yeah, now so now that’s out of the way… I’ve been looking for months for a great pair of leather gloves (not chaps, or neck leashes…), and haven’t had too much luck. I mean, the ones that I find that I like are like, Burberry, and $350. Who wears gloves that cost that much!?!?! Well, I can think of a million more things that I’d rather spend $350 on than gloves, so I’ve come up with some alternatives.

Now, normally I wouldn’t really promote Juicy Couture, since I hate their pants with “Juicy” written really big on the ass. I mean, it’s like 17 year old girls that wear that, and it just seems inappropriate. Anywhooo, they apparently sell really cool gloves though. You can find this pair on Http://www.JuicyCouture.com, and they are $125.00.

For a little comparison, this pair of 3.1 Phillip Lim gloves go for $195.00 at http://www.net-a-porter.com. Secondly, this pair is from http://www.urbanoutfitters.com, they look almost identical, and they go for $38.00. Um… I guess the main difference are the gemstones. I guess you could *Bedazzle* your Urban pair… because really, don’t we all have Bedazzlers? (j/k)

This last pair is from http://www.Kohls.com, and goes for just $22.00.

So go get some cropped gloves, throw these bitches on with a little cropped jacket, and get ready to look fabulous.

Kelli Martin – Creative Design

I really liked a lot of the designers on Project Runway that didn’t make it so far. One of my original favorites was Kelli Martin. She’s from Ohio, and owns a boutique called Black Market. Her line is called Anti-Label: http://anti-label.com/.

Kelli is such a cute girl, and has one of the best leopard print tattoo that I’ve seen (because frankly, most of them suck).

She is really creative in her designs, and her first dress on PR (which is a couple of pictures down) was made out of bleached vacuum cleaner bags, and burnt coffee filters. How creative! I wish more people would get inspired, and take clothes they don’t wear that often and just alter them. So what if you ruin it, you don’t wear it anyway.. and if you don’t ruin it, you’ve probably made it better, and you’ll have something that no one else has.

Here is Kelli with the dress that she made to win the very first challenge on Project Runway, season 5. It is made entirely out of items purchased at the grocery store, and the back clasps are made from the rings of a notebook!

Here is Kelli with the outfit that got her kicked off. This episode, she was designing an outfit for Brooke Shields in Lipstick Jungle.

I’m addicted to the E! show Chelsea Lately. Comedian Chelsea Handler, and her sidekick Chuy basically sit around and talk shit about, and to celebrities. The portion of the show called “The Round Table” is the best. It’s just her with a bunch of other comedians talking about the current events of celebrities. Hilarious. Chelsea is not only funny, but she has a killer sense of style. Whether it’s on the show, or on the red carpet, she’s always looking fabulous. Here are some Chelsea looks, and places you can snag them!!

This is Chelsea in a dress by David Meister, which you can find on his site: http://www.davidmeister.com.

Another great dress she wore was this black number by Black Halo. You can find it on http://www.shopstyle.com for $350. It’s not the exact one that she wore, but it’s close.

Chelsea in a beautiful blue strapless dress. To get that look for “less”, I would reccommend these two dresses. The first is by Nicole Miller, $230 on http://www.bluefly.com. The second is by David Meister, and can be found on http://www.bloomingdales.com for $375.

Chelsea in a stunning yellow ruffle dress. I love vintage, so I would suggest this Karen Zambo vintage dress on http://www.thisnext.com.

Tabatha Coffey – Smart Style

Tabatha Coffey is a Joico hairstylist, that made her first major tv debut on Bravo’s Sheer Genius. She has since started her own show called Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. She’s a smart, talented, aggressive, and bitchy. I love her. She has her own personal style of short platinum hair, and black outfits every episode. I think her fashion sense is very sleek and smart.

Snagging Tabatha’s style takes a little more than just grabbing a black dress. I have found some really good “Tabatha-ish” dresses on http://www.bluefly.com, http://www.chicdowntown.com, and my favorite Tabatha dress, by Muse at  http://www.edressme.com/mf39072.html .

The favorite Tabatha dress by Muse. This dress used to be a little more, but now it runs about $163.00.: muse163

Passing Afternoon

So, I keep seeing Katy Perry everywhere, and some days I love what she’s wearing, and other days I don’t. It’s hard to decide whether or not she has killer style, or is just some kid who is being thrown into some crazy outfits for more publicity. I honestly doubt she has killer personal style, looking back on how she’s dressed before she got famous. Regardless of if I LOVE something she’s wearing, or hate it, I have to give her props for not being shy about dressing up. What fun is it to wear a dumpy t-shirt and jeans all the time?

I guess I just like the fact that she’s willing to take some risks. Katy is beautiful, and hopefully she’ll keep up with the good ones, and try to have a more editing eye when it comes to choosing her wardrobe.

I do have to say a little something about her Obama Dress!! Holy crap. Ok, so, it’s pretty awesome that someone made an Obama dress, but I always am a little uneasy when celebrities support politicians. I mean, I wonder how much she really knows about Obama? She might know a lot about politics, I don’t care enough to do any research on it, but I wonder sometimes…

Love the last outfit. I want it!!!

In All Unholy Bathrooms

One of my favorite things to do is shop for great vintage finds. My favorite styles are from the 40s and 50s. I think the best part about shopping vintage is that you will have something that no one else has. I mean, it’s not like the little shops have the same dress in every size. I really love this website called http://www.dorotheasclosetvintage.com/index.html. They are pretty expensive, but have great pieces. They even carry lingerie (which is totally rad, since the best lingerie came from back in the day when everyone was a sex kitten). Dorothea’s Closet Vintage is actually a store in Des Moines, Iowa, but since I don’t live there, I have to shop online. Here are a few finds from Dorotheas Closet.

I love this slip!!!

So, if you love Dorothea’s Closet Vintage, but can’t afford everything there (I wish I could, but hey, sometimes ya just can’t)… there is a great website called http://www.freudianslipsvintage.com/. Hello! What a freakin’ cute name!!! Freudian Slips Vintage is based in London, but doesn’t have a store. They are only online, so you can shop awesome vintage 24 hours a day. They had rad dresses, coats, and yes… slips. I love this website!! Here are two great finds from the website:
